Major Arcana cards:XI Justice

Decision, Justice, Balance, Law

Card Interpretation

The card depicts the impartial Goddess of Justice seated on a stone throne. In her right hand, she holds a sword of justice; in her left, a balance that distinguishes good from evil. With these two sacred implements, the Goddess of Justice can easily discern the ins and outs of any matter as well as its future trajectory, allowing her to face everything before her with composure. She also reminds the world of the karmic cycle of cause and effect, urging people to embrace tolerance, uphold morality, and stand firm for justice.

The key to interpreting this card lies in the concepts of morality and balance. Grasp these two principles, and you will hold the crux of the matter.

The meditating Goddess of Justice, clad in a crimson robe and crowned with gold, sits upright on a stone seat. The balance in her left hand symbolizes her ability to deliver fair judgments on all right and wrong; the sword held high in her right hand signifies the power to redress all distortions and falsehoods in the world. Her left foot steps slightly outward, as if about to rise, yet her right foot remains hidden beneath her robe—an indication of her hesitation in reaching a fair verdict. This foreshadows that maintaining impartial judgment is by no means an easy task. Only by properly reconciling the conflicts between others and oneself, and by constantly reflecting on one’s own actions, can the sword and the balance fulfill their true purposes.

Upright Position

When drawn upright, the card signifies: Fairness, neutrality, honesty, magnanimity, integrity, holding dual roles, striving for rationality, being a mediator, matters related to law, open and aboveboard interactions, and harmonious relationships. In your career, you won’t feel much out of the ordinary—you will simply execute your established plans conscientiously. You are quite content with your love life, and your partner embraces all the choices you make.

Reversed Position

When drawn reversed, the card signifies: Imbalance, prejudice, turmoil, litigation, arbitrariness, a guilty conscience, the inability to have it both ways, duplicity, incompatible personalities between partners, emotional upheavals, and love affairs that flout social morality. Prolonged suppression has caused you to collapse at the most critical juncture of your career; you need to take a serious break to recuperate before forging ahead again. Emotionally, you have been enduring grievances for a long time, but this time you finally erupt, starting to accuse your partner of all their faults. Your relationship will consequently face severe upheavals.

Libra

Libra corresponds to the Justice card in Tarot. Librans are born mediators and harmony-seekers.
