Major Arcana cards:VI The Lovers

Choice, Love, Sexuality, Union

Card Interpretation

This is the most insightful card in Tarot for interpreting love, representing the adolescence of life. On the card, a man and a woman come together as lovers at the call of an angel. Though bathed in sunshine and filled with bliss, numerous trials await them behind their embrace—the Tree of Hope and the Tree of the Forbidden Fruit coiled with a serpent.

Lovers in a relationship can support and assist each other, with romance becoming the theme of this beautiful period. Yet those in love must face an emotional choice: selecting one partner from among many potential suitors. Thus, love is both beautiful and cruel. When interpreting this card, one must always pay attention to the choice behind the "union"—meaning that one has to make trade-offs.

Set against the backdrop of the Garden of Eden, the Lovers card draws on the love story of Adam and Eve to illustrate the true essence of love. In the imagery, Adam and Eve stand on either side, savoring the romance and warmth of love amid the angel’s blessings. The angel is clad in a purple robe, said to symbolize loyalty in love, while their outstretched arms foreshadow the vital role of communication in romantic relationships. Adam on the right gazes intently at Eve, yet Eve looks up at the angel; coupled with the angel looking down upon both of them, this visual cycle symbolizes the hierarchical transitions between the subconscious, conscious, and superconscious, as well as between the physical, spiritual, and moral realms. It also hints at the interplay between rationality and sensibility.

Upright Position

When drawn upright, the card signifies: Matchmaking, love, popularity, shared interests, a promising future, charm, and new friendships. It reflects the longing for love both emotionally and physically, implying that the relationship will evolve toward greater intimacy. In your career, you will face a critical decision that will shape your future prospects.

Reversed Position

When drawn reversed, the card signifies: Inability to resist temptation, overindulgence in desire, fickleness, fading friendship, weariness, quarrels, ostentatious appearance, and indecisiveness. Emotionally, you behave immaturely—while you yearn for growth and hope, you seek to avoid risks and shirk responsibilities forever. In your career, you maintain excessive vigilance, making others feel uncomfortable and unwilling to cooperate with you.

Gemini

Gemini corresponds to the Lovers card in Tarot.

Geminis often seem to stand at a crossroads, making choices between morality and faith, which reflects their personal beliefs and values. They are constantly faced with two sides of themselves and dual personalities.
